When we bought our house, this is what it looked like. I hated pretty much everything.
Two months after closing, our kitchen looked like this. Here's what we did in the kitchen before moving in:
- scraped the popcorn ceilings
- removed the chair rail
- painted the walls and trim
- replaced the floors
- bought a new dishwasher and refrigerator
- replaced the light fixtures
I wanted to paint the cabinets, get new hardware, and cut off that weird fence/molding thing at the top of the wall cabinets. Other projects ended up taking priority, and we didn't start on painting the cabinets until June.
In June we sanded and primed the cabinets doors, and then stopped. We had a lot of Netflix to watch, and we got lazy.
In July we got back to work and started on the drawers.
We piled our kitchen stuff in the dining room, but thankfully we only had to live like this for about a week.
After the cabinets doors and drawers were complete, we started on the cabinet boxes. This took us a weekend. We used two different sanders - Sam used the orbital sander and I used the mouse sander.
After sanding, Sam cut off that weird fence trim pieces. Yay! Then we primed. We tried a new primer for this project - Glidden Gripper. We primed two coats.
The next day we started adding color! My favorite part! The color is Sherwin Williams Gallery Green.
Here it is all finished! Eventually I want to get a new range and microwave, but that's not in the budget right now.
The wall color is Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.
I'm pleased with the results. Eventually I want to replace the cabinets, but this is a good update in the interim.
