Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my family to yours.

At Home with the Petersens

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

In October, we had a photo shoot to document our first home together. The photographer was White Rabbit Studios, our wedding photographer.

I've trained Finn to pose when he sees a camera.

Sam came up with a fun idea for the photos - he found some 1950's advertisements and wanted to recreate them.

Guest Bathroom

Monday, December 21, 2015

Sam's family visited us during Thanksgiving, and our goal was to update the bathroom and set up a second guest room before they visited. Other than the master, the guest bathroom is the other bathroom upstairs.

On the agenda was to add mirrors, paint the walls and trim, update the light fixture, paint the cabinets, and add new hardware.

I bought these mirrors at Home Goods for $40/each. They aren't my favorite, but I needed something inexpensive.

We painted the bathroom a paler shade of yellow - Benjamin Moore Windham Cream.

Sam painted the cabinets all by himself.

Our original plan was to spray paint the light fixture, but it ended up looking cheap and ugly so we just replaced it (from Wayfair).

The shade is also from Wayfair.

The pulls and knobs are from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot

Eventually I'd like to replace the counter tops and floors, but this was an inexpensive update in the meantime.

Cross Country Roadtrip: Napa Valley Wineries

Thursday, December 17, 2015

This post is part of a series about our Cross Country Roadtrip. To see all the previous posts, click here.

I think the part of our trip that I was most excited about was visiting wineries in Napa Valley. Of course since we were traveling with Finn, we only visited dog friendly wineries. This article was particularly helpful when searching for dog friendly wineries.

We spent the night at Sugar Loaf Ridge State Park (very pretty), and in the morning we drove into Napa. Our first winery was at Pine Ridge. It was absolutely wonderful! We had reservations, and as soon as we walked up to the door, Finn was greeted by name! He was so excited! I know he doesn't look excited in this photo, but he really was!

When our food and wine was brought out to us, Finn got treats and water also! He was so pampered!

Beautiful location!

Our next winery was Honig. As soon as we arrived I went to the restroom, and Finn and Sam got seating without me. When I walked out of the restroom, an employee asked if I was Finn's mom. I have no idea how she knew that, since I didn't even have Finn with me, but it was a very nice welcome!

Finn especially loved the treats here!

"More treats, please."
Sam loved the honeysuckle at Honig.

After these two wineries, we had lunch at Gott's Roadside. We had planned to stop at a third winery after lunch, but we wanted to drive to our campground and go to the beach. We camped at Wright's Beach (literally on the beach) at Sonoma Coast State Park.

*My next travel post is scheduled for Thursday, January 7th.
