On our second day in Venice, we had a gondola ride scheduled, which is was VERY excited about! We went to the gondola meeting spot, and it started pouring rain. We had already paid for the gondola, and we couldn't cancel, so we decided to wait out the rain. As soon as it stops raining, everyone hopped in the gondola (two other couple were in the same gondola as us).
Of course, as soon as we're all seated, it starts pouring again. Thankfully, we had both brought rain jackets, but the downpour eventually seeped under the rain jackets. Our gondola driver (I'm sure driver isn't the proper term, but I'm not sure what they're called) parked us under a bridge while we waited for the rain to pass.
After about 10 minutes, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and it was a beautiful day!
The houses all seemed to have two entrances: a water entrance and a street entrance.
Towards the end of the ride, we were serenaded while drifting down the Grand Canal. Sam said this was the highlight of the trip for him because it started out so terrible but had a great ending.
These photos of Venice were taken from the balcony of our cruise ship room at sunrise.
The Bridge of Sighs
The first stop on our cruise was Corfu, Greece, which I will blog about next week.
