Happy Monday

Monday, October 6, 2008

Today was a pretty great day. I started out the morning with our student chapter meeting of American Society of Interior Designers. I'm the president! We revealed our t-shirt competition winner. I love the design and I can't wait until we get our shirts!
The red square is glass tile, the green square is wood flooring, and the blue square is a tufted chair. Separating each square are windows in a floor plan. Carrying through the floor plan idea, the outside edge of the design is "dimensioned" but instead of numbers it has the name of our school.

For lunch I met my friend Liz and her fiancee, who is joining the Army. I met Liz my freshman year and then she transferred to a state school. We've kept in touch, though, and when she got engaged last semester she asked me to be a bridesmaid. We don't get to see each other very often since she's going to school several hours north of here, so I was very excited when she Facebooked me this weekend and told me she was coming to town.

In Interior Design V, we had a furniture sales rep come and speak to our class. We've been discussing our futures a great deal in my one of other classes, Business Principles for Interior Design, and I've finally determined my career goals. I want to have my internship with a commercial interior design firm/architect firm. Hopefully this experience will open doors for me and lead to job opportunities in commercial design. After working for a firm, I would like to work somewhere that concentrates in historical preservation. My favorite class so far was History of Architecture and Interiors, and I would love to learn more about this type of work. Eventually, after learning a lot, passing the NCIDQ, and becoming a professional member of ASID, I would like to be a sales rep. I've been thinking about being a textiles sales rep because that was my other favorite class. But after listening to our guest speaker today in class, I'm thinking that being a furniture sales rep would be more challenging.

After class Shawn called me. I was very surprised to hear from him two days in a row! He's working 7pm-7am this week, and it's difficult to find time to talk to each other. I definitely don't want him to call me at 6am my time when he gets off (especially since I don't have class until 1pm), and when he's on his way to work I'm already at my job. So it was very exciting to get to talk to him today, despite the fact that he had to call me back about five times in 30 minutes. For some reason, our call kept getting dropped.

This week has started off pretty good, and this weekend Fall Break starts! I get Monday and Tuesday of next week off.
